The Bangkok branch of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation provides corporate financial services to Japanese companies operating in Thailand as well as local businesses. Its main services include loans, deposits, foreign exchange transactions, fundraising, and cash management. In addition, it plays a consulting role in supporting Japanese companies with market entry and business expansion, serving as a key financial hub connecting Japan and Thailand.

Forward Looking Design – A Seminar-Ready Concept

For this project, we embraced the theme of “Forward Looking Design” , creating visuals that would befit the atmosphere of a prestigious seminar.

Mitsui Sumitomo Banking Corporation (SMBC) provided us with the following requests:

  • A modern design based on the corporate colors of SMBC and SBCS

  • A more prominent emphasis on the logo size

  • A design incorporating the cityscape of Thailand, particularly Bangkok

To deliver on these expectations, we assigned one of the top designers from Tokyo University of the Arts , who also serves as a faculty member there. Together, we aimed to create a design with strong presence, worthy of a major banking institution’s event.

We proposed two design options :

Option A
Incorporating Thailand’s landmarks and architectural motifs into the background, we applied graphic effects symbolizing growth, progress, and hope . This reinforced the corporate image of delivering positive value.

Option B
Using fundamental geometric shapes—circles, triangles, squares, and lines—arranged rhythmically, we express diversity, flexibility, and structured development through a dynamic composition.

Ultimately, Option A was selected and has since been used across all subsequent joint events. We were delighted to hear feedback from the client that the design was “very easy to use” , making this project a truly rewarding outcome for our team.
